The Athene Operating System was a commercial operating system developed by Rocklyte for use in the home and office. It combined our core platform with the latest Linux technology to create one of the fastest operating systems available for consumer PCs. It is also the only OS to have a GUI that was completely scripted, allowing adjustments with little more than a text editor and basic knowledge of markup languages. With boot times as fast as five seconds and advanced graphics technology not available in standard Linux distributions, Athene was a very unique alternative to Windows on the computer desktop.
The Linux based version of Athene was distributed on CDROM, but the last update was made in 2007. We no longer consider it viable to distribute in its original form, primarily due to the diversity of modern hardware and the difficulty in supporting what is now an infinite set of hardware combinations. Fortunately the entire core platform is still maintained and can be used in the form of the Rocklyte SDK, DML, Fluid and RIPPLE. We are also looking at the possibility of a new desktop that could target Android devices, which would sidestep the issue of providing hardware support to our users.
